Babette Fuss, Ph.D., is a professor with the department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Virginia Commonwealth University. She joined the department in 1999. Babette received her PhD degree from the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich for her work on the neural cell adhesion molecule Tenascin-R. For her postdoctoral training, Babette moved to the University of California Los Angeles and the Lerner Research Institute at the Cleveland Clinic to investigate cellular/molecular mechanisms of oligodendrocyte maturation and myelination. When establishing her own line of research, Babette focused on the role of the extracellular environment on oligodendrocyte maturation and myelination with a particular emphasis on the secreted and thus extracellular protein Autotaxin, also known as PD-Iα/ATX, ENPP2 and lysoPLD.
