Lead facilitator 2020 - present

My long-term goal is to improve treatment options for individuals with multiple sclerosis through translational research, focusing on applying new knowledge from the laboratory to the clinic. Throughout my career as a clinician-scientist, I have systematically pursued a multidisciplinary approach to translational research in multiple sclerosis that integrates laboratory, imaging and clinical investigations. The bench research continues to be a major focus of my laboratory. I have expertise in laboratory investigations of neuroinflammatory mechanisms including specialized lymphocyte subsets, intracellular signaling and animal models of multiple sclerosis. I have experience in molecular imaging of subjects with multiple sclerosis, aimed at defining new in vivo markers of neuroinflammation. I have been an investigator on a number of experimental drug trials as well as post-marketing drug trials. Furthermore, I have established a data registry/tissue bank at the VCU School of Medicine, which serves as repository for serum, peripheral blood cells and cerebrospinal fluid from subjects with multiple sclerosis and other neurological diseases for the purposes of discovery and validation research.
